This site is dedicated to providing the best
MRE information to the average person.
We assume you've never even bough an MRE.
We will start from the very beginning by
defining an MRE, showing you exact photos.
We will then show you how to purchase them,
identify what's in the, and the how to cook
and eat them. Let's get started. |
The Meal, Ready-to-Eat( MRE)
is a self-contained, single field ration
packaged somewhat tightly in lightweight
durable plastic pouch. First and primarily
purchased by the United States military for
military personnel for use in the field or
other conditions where food facilities are
not available. The MRE replaced the canned
Meal, Combat, Individual rations (MCI) in
1981 when Ronald Reagan entered office and
upgraded the military. Each meal provides
about 1,200 Calories (1,200 kcal or
5,000 kJ) and normally comes with an entree,
side, snack, spread, dessert and/or candy,
beverage, flameless ration heater, accessory
pack, and grain item (Crackers/Bread etc..)

 |
| The MRE outer
case has three valuable pieces
of information. First is
the
"Date Packaged",
which is the date the
manufacturer packaged the case
for delivery. The
Inspection/Test Date
is the date the military
uses to inspect the MREs, test
them and possibly replace them.
Its always 3 years from the
packaged date. The final piece
of information is labeled
Menu,
which tells the buyer the
Case (A or B), and the menu
numbers it contains. In
most all cases, Case "A" will
contain menus 1-12 and case "B"
will contain menus 13-24. |
